Hey Pro-Life

I’m having a bit of trouble getting reblogs to post to one tumblr versus another (I’ve got two that I manage from this login). So if anyone sees weird notifications appearing and disappearing from heyprolife and/or no1TrueWay that’s why.

Grr.

Santorum: “Health of the mother is ‘phony’ abortion exception

“Frothy mix of feces and semen” is too good a name for Santorum. He doesn’t deserve to be anywhere near an orgasm for the rest of his life.

(in regards to http://www.rhrealitycheck.org/video/2011/06/09/santorum-health-mother-phony-abortion-exception)

Once again, “pro-life” reveals itself as anything but. Women are but chattel to them. Do you have any idea how narrow and blurry the line between “risk to health” and “risk to life” is? Do you have any idea how many women would end up permanently disabled or mentally ill and less able to care for the children they already have because of your “phony” exception?

Yes, I know this guy is a third-tier candidate, there’s no way he’ll win the nomination, yada yada yada. But people with his views are already in charge of far too many state legislatures, and women. are. dying.

With your own body, you can be as ‘pro-life’ as you want. When it’s someone else’s body, it’s none of your fucking business.
Say it with me now, scarier but oh-so-freeing: I am pro-abortion.
Because women’s work is never done and is underpaid or unpaid or boring or repetitious and we’re the first to get fired and what we look like is more important than what we do and if we get raped it’s our fault and if we get beaten we must have provoked it and if we raise our voices we’re nagging bitches and if we enjoy sex we’re nymphos and if we don’t we’re frigid and if we love women it’s because we can’t get a “real” man and if we ask our doctor too many questions we’re neurotic and/or pushy and if we expect childcare we’re selfish and if we stand up for our rights we’re aggressive and “unfeminine” and if we don’t we’re typical weak females and if we want to get married we’re out to trap a man and if we don’t we’re unnatural and because we still can’t get an adequate safe contraceptive but men can walk on the moon and if we can’t cope or don’t want a pregnancy we’re made to feel guilty about abortion and…for lots of other reasons we are part of the women’s liberation movement.

Hey pro-life, listen up.

Here’s the thing, all you people who believe that abortion is murder.

That’s your opinion.

Other people have different opinions.

And given that this is all taking place inside a living, autonomous, sovereign human being’s body, that human being’s opinion is the one that matters.

Once a fetus is born, it’s a separate entity, and society’s laws apply. But as long as it’s physically connected to another’s body, living off of that person’s body, that person is not obligated to support it.

We don’t legally require people to donate organs to save the lives of those in need of them, either. You may think it’s a good idea, but to legally require such a thing - the subordination of one body to support another - is to say that one person is intrinsically worth more than another, and that is at odds with fundamental human rights.

Underground abortions have returned to the United States, just as pro-choice activists have warned for years. And women have started going to jail for the crime of ending their own pregnancies, or trying to.

Republicans in Washington are voting to starve the very fetuses Republicans so hypocritically claim to care about, the women carrying them that they so obviously don’t, and the mothers and children who they care even less for.
Starvation, not Abortion, by Echidne of the Snakes. Please go read the whole thing.
Ugh.

The only way to make sense of the views of the “pro-life” camp is to understand that they believe that your biology should determine your destiny. If you are born with a uterus, you are a baby-making factory, and how dare you presume to be anything more?

I mean, if you’re going to use that kind of argument, we should all be living in caves and dying before we’re 40.

STDs, unplanned pregnancy, rape, abuse, these are not problems for “pro-life,” they’re not interested in changing these things. They’re features, incentives for women to give up and slink back to the kitchen.

Not feeling that eloquent today, but needed to get that out there.

What does this have to do with pro-choice? Forcing women to have children against their will only makes these numbers worse.
